Overcoming the Monster: A Valuable Lesson in San Juan, Philippines

Overcoming the Monster: A Valuable Lesson in San Juan, Philippines

Hey there, my adventurous friend! I hope you’re ready for another one of my travel stories, because today I have quite the tale to share with you. Picture this: quaint streets lined with colorful houses, warm smiles from the locals, and beautiful sandy beaches stretching as far as the eye can see. Welcome to San Juan, Philippines!

As soon as I arrived in San Juan, I couldn’t help but fall in love with the town’s charm and welcoming atmosphere. But little did I know, I was about to face a significant challenge that would test both my wits and my trust in others.

An Unfortunate Scam

One sunny morning, I decided to explore the town and stumbled upon an intriguing attraction called Kahua Caliyah Resort & Glamping Site. The promise of glamping amidst nature was too hard to resist, so I eagerly booked a stay. Little did I know that this was the perfect set-up for what was about to unfold.

Arriving at the resort, I was greeted by not-so-friendly staff who demanded an exorbitant fee for my reservation. Confused and flustered, I realized that I had fallen victim to a tourist scam. My initial excitement quickly turned into frustration, and I felt a lump of disappointment in the pit of my stomach.

I realized that I had two choices: to let this setback ruin the rest of my trip, or to find a way to overcome it and turn it into a valuable lesson. Determined not to let this experience define my time in San Juan, I decided to take the second option.

A Lesson in Resilience

After a bit of venting and regaining my composure, I researched alternative accommodation options in San Juan. This led me to an incredible find – a charming Airbnb hosted by a local family. Not only was the room comfortable and affordable, but I also had the chance to connect with the locals and gain a deeper understanding of their culture.

This whole experience taught me an important lesson in resilience and the power of embracing uncertainty. You see, sometimes we can’t control the challenges thrown our way, but we can control how we respond to them. By choosing to let go of anger and disappointment, I opened myself up to new opportunities and a more authentic experience.

Exploring the Local Delights

Despite the initial setback, San Juan had so much to offer. One of the highlights of my trip was discovering a hidden gem called House of Basil by Kusina ni Kumare. This charming restaurant not only served delicious Filipino dishes but also provided a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. I devoured mouthwatering local specialties like adobo and pancit, and I will forever cherish the memories made in this little culinary haven.

Advice for Fellow Travelers

Now, my dear friend, let me share a valuable piece of advice for anyone planning to visit San Juan: always do your research and book accommodation through reliable sources. Bypassing tourist scams can save you time, money, and headaches, and ensure that your trip is filled with positive experiences from start to finish.

While San Juan may have tested my resilience, it also rewarded me with unexpected joys and unforgettable experiences. This town taught me to embrace the unknown, stay open to new possibilities, and seek out the authentic beauty that lies beyond the surface.

So, if you ever find yourself in the Philippines, make sure to add San Juan to your itinerary. Just remember to stay vigilant, trust your intuition, and be open to the lessons that every destination has to offer.

Until our next travel adventure, cheers to embracing the monsters in our journeys and emerging stronger on the other side!

Stay curious, my wanderlust-filled friend.

Love,
Mia
